World Football Cup 2006 Football World Cup 2014The 2014 Football World Cup will provisionally take place in Brazil, or maybe in Chile-Argentina as a joint hosting. On March 7, 2003 FIFA announced that the cup would be held in South America for the first time since Argentina hosted it in 1978, in line with its policy of rotating the right to host the World Cup amongst the different confederations. On March 17 the CONMEBOL associations voted unanimously to adopt Brazil as their sole candidate. The final decision as to hosting will be made sometime in 2008. This will be the first time the World Cup has been held outside of Europe twice in a row.
However, Brazil is not certain as the host. The country has some drawbacks such as lack of appropriate venues for the matches and would need a lot of investment in security and infrastructure. Other countries that are running for hosting the World Cup are Chile and Argentina in a joint bid. The United States has also shown interest in hosting the World Cup for the second time in only 20 years. There is speculation that China might be another candidate, and they could build on the infrastructure implemented for the Beijing Olympic Games six years earlier. Also, China is hosting the Women's FIFA World Cup in 2007, so the possibilities are barely none. Nevertheless, the fact that Japan and South Korea hosted the 2002 World Cup means Asia will have little chance to receive the ball again. South America seems to be the absolutely favorite location for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Text and images from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. under the GNU Free Documentation License - Disclaimers.
