Stuart Appleby

Stuart Appleby (born May 1, 1971, Cohuna, Victoria) is an Australian golfer.

Career summary

A dairy farmer's son from rural northern Victoria, Appleby practiced by hitting balls from paddock to paddock. He turned professional in 1992 and began his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia. In 1995 he won twice on the Nike Tour, the second tier men's tour on in the U.S., and qualified to compete on the PGA Tour the following year by finishing the season fifth on the money list. He has won eight times on the PGA Tour. He was a member of the International Team in the first three stagings of the Presidents Cup, and has featured in the top fifteen of the Official World Golf Rankings.

Appleby's first wife, Renay, was killed in a freak accident outside a train station in London shortly after he had missed the cut at The Open Championship in 1998. He remarried Ohio native Ashley Saleet in 2003; they had their first child, a girl, in January 2005.
